The Physical Activity and Leisure Motivation Scale (PALMS) is a comprehensive tool designed to measure the motives for participating in physical activity (PA). It consists of a 40-item scale that relates to participation in sports and PA and is intended for use with adolescents and adults. The PALMS includes eight sub-scales, each with five items, that reflect different motives for engaging in PA. These sub-scales are mastery, enjoyment, psychological condition, physical condition, appearance, other’s expectations, affiliation, and competition/ego.
